So glad I found this forum. Lots of wonderful and helpful ideas.
My mother-in-law would always knit slippers that had a popcorn stitch or puff type stitch. Does anyone have a pattern or know where I can get this pattern for these slippers?
I looked at that link but could not find what I was looking for. The stitch looked like a popcorn or puff type stitch and the slipper looked just like a basic slipper…like she worked it in a square and gathered the toe and then closed part of the top and the back but was a puffy type of stitch rather than a straight stitch. She learned the pattern from her mom in Canada.
I’ve looked all over but can’t find this stitch and I asked her, but she’s older now and I don’t think she remembers.
Are you sure it was knitted? The only popcorn stitch I know of is for crochet. In knitting it’s usually called bobble I think… I could be wrong though.
I found a website that has the slipper pattern I’m looking for…it’s called Pioneer Heritage Shoppe…I don’t know if I can post a picture here or not…but if someone can look at this website and knows about this pattern, please let me know. I’ll be happy to pay for it.
I found these which look similar. They aren’t really bobbles, but the pattern you linked to didn’t look exactly like bobbles to me either exactly. I suspect if you really want bobbles you’ll have to make your own pattern with them. You can take a basic pattern like this one and bobble it if you want although it may not fit the same way. http://www.sewonfire.com/pattern_checkerboard_slippers.html
Thank you so much for all your help! I do appreciate it very, very much. These are about what I’m looking for…and possibly with bobbles on the one’s she used to make with just one color. I do remember she made some like this too with stripes.
Thank you again!!! Have a good day
Sandy
Oh, I live in California too. I’m in Seal Beach, were are you?
I live in Laguna Hills! Too bad you aren’t closer. We have a Yarn Lady Knit Night on Friday evening. They are moving so they’re closed now, but will open in early July. Woo!
BTW…there are a bunch of ‘old’ type slipper patterns I found on Ravelry. You know you could probably do a seed stitch on some of it to give it a bobbly look, too.
To me, they look just like the checkerboard slippers Jan has found but knit with one colour thick and one colour thin yarn which makes them look more ‘bobbley’
Thanks, I’m going to try these slipper and see how they turn out. My mother-in-law is looking for the pattern for me also. I’ll let you know how they turn out.
