Long-tail cast on

I am trying different kinds of casting on and i really like the “sling-shot” or long-tail style. what i’m confused about is this: when i’m finished casting on and turning my work to start the first row the knitting yarn is in front of my work. isn’t it supposed to be in back? i feel like i’m doing something backwards. any help is appreciated!

nah that’s right…

It’s really at the end of your cast-on `row’, so you bring it to whichever side you need to work with it on.
