This pattern is worked seamlessly from the top down and features no-seam, anchored as you go pockets. I am now at the point where I would be adding the pockets. In preparation, I was instructed, many rows ago, to slip 15 stitches mid row onto holder, then pick up and knit 15 stitches into he WS purl bumps immediately under the live stitches on hold. This resulted in picture below. To work the pocket fronts, they are anchored along the front edge as you knit, using the “garter bumps” created along the front edge. First instruction: “slip held left pocket sets ono larger diameter circular needle, with WS facing you, join new yarn”. Then in subsequent Row 1 (WS) K4 and purl to end of row. Since my stitches are held on the RS of the piece, I am having trouble making sense of this. Row 2 (RS) Wyib so that yarn is toward inside of pocket, pick up garter stitch bump from body with left needle tip in a downward motion then k2tog (working the garter bump together with the first pocket st. I could probably figure out Row 2 and subsequent if I could figure out how to execute Row 1 (WS) with the stitches on the RS.
OMG, that’s adorable!
The pocket is worked on the outside. I think it’s referring to the WS of the pocket, not the WS of the front panel. Attach the yarn at the outside edge of the pocket stitches and work toward the center front.
It’s going to be fiddly, with one edge of the pocket being attached along the front edge, but a bunch of people have done it. Here’s a comment I found on the Forum for the project:
“I’ve been hard at work on my Little Opa today and the way the pockets are constructed in this pattern is so clever! There’s no seaming involved, you just kind of knit a second flap over the body and attach it to the body as you go. I love finding interesting techniques like this in patterns.”
I hope this helps!
Thank you so much for answering me! I will forge ahead! Question, when you say there are references to this pattern in the Forum, how did you find them? I searched Opa and Little Opa but came up with my question, only. New to this website and enormously relieved that you helped me, but would like a more robust understanding of what it offers. Thanks!
Sorry, I was unclear. The Ravelry Forum page for Little Opa has some comments, and there are several projects with comments as well, but it’s harder to search as there are more of them. The one I quoted is the sixth one, below the pic of the sweater in bright blue:
