Lion Brand The Cottony one by Tom Daley

Hello everyone,

Hope you’re all having lovely weekends!

I was wondering if anyone has used the lion brand “the cottony one”? The colour palette is pretty perfect for the map of the world sweater but it’s more expensive than yarn I normally get so I was just wondering if anyone had any experience good or bad with it?

Thanks!

I’ve not used this yarn but it looks like it’d be a good substitute for the original. It might be worth looking through all the projects on Ravelry - a significant number were made in a wool yarn, so unless you are keen on cotton, I think it would work well in a wider range of yarns. You mighty find a less expensive option if you widen the fibre type!

Hello Mel! Hope you’re well!

I’ve been like Goldilocks with the yarn for this. Ones too shiny, ones too thin, ones too fat. I’m a bit of an awkward customer because I don’t use wool and it seems a shame to use an acrylic for this jumper. Was hoping for a good drape but a bit of a fuzz too so thought a cotton acrylic might do the trick.

Oh and then there’s the colours. I don’t want anything too bright, otherwise I’m worried that it leans into a geography teacher vibe. I found some fab yarn from Scheepjes called truly scrumptious that claimed to be Aran but is so chunky that it must be a chunky. The colour range was perfect.

I had no idea when I started knitting how much time I’d spend looking for the right yarn. I’m even boring myself with it. :joy:

It’s addictive once you start! I follow so many indie dyers and am seduced by so many ‘one of a kind’ colours and yarns, that I stash the stuff faster than I’ll ever knit it! I even have to keep a spreadsheet so that I can keep track of it all!! It’s all different weights, but at my last count, I’m up to over 230 kilometers of yarn!
It’s never boring! I still get a dopamine rush when I open Instagram! :joy::joy:

Have you also considered Rowan creative linen? I’ve used that before and like the result - it’s not as heavy as cotton on its own, and it has no synthetics. It’s a little more expensive but the metreage is longer, so it works out about the same price as the lions brand. Wool warehouse stock it - I think you’ve said you use them before? It might be worth checking out the colour palette :art::art:

Are the colors in Scheepjes Bloom too bright? I personally love working with their River Washed and Stone Washed, which can easily be mixed and matched to get the colors you want.
