Lion Brand Respun Bonus - Blanket

Has anyone here ever used Lion Brand Respun Bonus yarn? I am thinking of ordering some to do a blanket because it seems a pretty affordable option. I did a blanket before using Bernat Premium that I was quite happy with. I would order that again, but I am interested in trying the Respun. Both yarns are No.4 and I see some people saying the Respun yarn is on the thinner side of No. 4. Also the Respun is polyester, which I have never used before. If anyone has experience using this yarn and can offer their opinion it would be greatly appreciated.

All I can say is that I’ve never met a polyester yarn that I like. This stuff might be different. Personally I have an avid dislike for polyester in general so I’m biased.

Perhaps you could order one skein to try it out before buying blanket quantities?

I can’t comment on this specific yarn as I have not used it.

I have used several recycled yarns though and I’ve really liked most of them. There was one that felt very scratchy to work with and the shed fibres bothered my skin, it really put me off it, however after a wash it has become one of the cardigans I wear the most often and I can also wear it directly by my skin (it no longer scratches or sheds it did pill in the early days, not any more). Other recycled yarns have all felt very nice to work with, soft and bouncy, and they have held up to our laundry routine (ie they survive. no care is taken, just thrown in the machine and shoved on the line to dry), they feel lovely to wear and against my skin and I really like them. I’ve used several different brands and been very happy. The down side is often they are limited edition so you must make sure to buy enough of your dye lot while they are in stock. I’d happy use the yarns I have experience of again but usually they are gone by the time I’ve tested them out and want to buy more.

I agree with trying one out first if you can, not always posible if stock is low or if delivery costs are equal to the cost of the yarn.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I think I might just stick with what I know. I have to order 35 dollars worth in order to get free shipping. I am also reading that acrylic might be better for a blanket.
