LEARN-TO-KNIT Afghan Book

Hi, I am new to knitting and ready to learn some new skills. After reading this forum, I took the suggestion of many to try out Barbara Walker’s Learn to Knit Afghan Book. I’m already stuck! To make this afghan, she recommends 28 ounces of 1 color and 12 ounces of another, preferably in wool. But when I go to purchase the yarn, most yarn is sold in yards. How do I figure out how many skeins to use? Does anyone have a yarn that they have used for this project that they particularly like? Thanks so much for your advice, Joan

Skeins of yarn always (that I’ve seen anyways) have the ounces/grams weight on the labels. Maybe take another look.

Thanks so much. I was looking on-line and didn’t see the ounces, only yards.I’ll have to go into a yarn store. Boy, do I feel like a dummy! Thanks again, Joan
