Lace Weight

I’m guessing that lace weight is very thin or fine, is that right?
I’m breaking out of my Walmart/Hobby Lobby yarn buying self and splurging by ordering from Knitpicks. I just haven’t a clue what to get! Their ‘shadow’ yarn looks beautiful, but I want to make sure I’m getting something that I will be able to handle.
Edited to add ~ While I’m asking, what exactly does ‘fingering weight’ mean?
Thanks knitters ~ you guys are awesome for always helping out newbie knitters like myself!

Lace weight and fingering weight are very thin.

In general terms, two strands of fingering is equal to one strand of dk, two strands of dk is equal to one strand of worsted, two strands of worsted is equal to one strand of bulky.

I’m not sure if fingering is considered the same as lace; I think lace is even thinner.

Fingering will give you somewhere in the vicinity of 28-32 st per 4 inches.

Lace weight is very thin, but if you knit actual lace with it, it goes quickly since you use larger needles with it to get the lacey effect.
