Lace pattern question

hi, all…

i am quite new to this forum, but hoping that someone might be able to explain a pattern to me. i’ve done gone and fallen desperately in love with a lace skirt pattern that i found in some arcane magazine! the pattern is probably too difficult for me, but that probably won’t stop me from trying.

there are a few different lace patterns used in the skirt. under the first lace pattern, the very first sentence of the pattern says, “over a multiple of 8 sts plus 1”. any ideas on what this could mean?

next, the first row contains a bunch of “yo twice”, which i understand, but then the second row says, “purl, working p1, k1 into each double yo”.

can anyone explain any of this to me? any thoughts that could be offered would be mightily appreciated.

best.

8+1 means just what you would think…pattern over 9 sts or 17 (8+8+1) or 25 (8+8+8+1) etc. No need to worry about it…it’s just an FYI and if you follow the instructions you’ll be fine.

The other part…on the one side you YO twice, then when you are on the next row you purl along and then when you come to the two yarn overs in a row you p1 in the first YO then k1 in the second YO.

hooray!

i just knew that someone here would have the answer! no doubt y’all will be hearing from me often with pattern questions after i buy the yarn and start this skirt!

muchissimas gracias!

best thoughts to all.
