Knitting with two yarns

Hello-
I am working on a baby blanket and the pattern calls for me to knit it with two strands of yarn held together. The blanket is done on circular needles with a seed stitch border and then a regular stockinette pattern in the center. The pattern is out the the first Stitch and Bitch book but I don’t have access to it right now. My question is can I do this pattern with only one strand of yarn or would that ruin it? I ask because I don’t think I bought enough yarn and I am not sure that I can find the same yarn again. Thanks for the help.

I’m sure it would work fine. It will be smaller and thinner, though.

I think you might have to use smaller needles, depending what ply yarn and what size needles it calls for. You could also use two different colors together.

I have done that with an afghan pattern. It called for 2 strands held together on size 17 needles. I ended up doing one strand on size 9 needles. I actually like it better than another I did with 2 strands.
