i’m a newbie and i’m knitting booties but now im stuck as pattern says break yarn With right side facing, join yarn and knit up 11sts on right side of instep, knit across the sts on needle, knit up 11 sts on left side of instep and k across . how do you do it. i asked a friend and she said knit into the back of the stitch but that didn’t work so how do you do it help please.
It means to pick up stitches knitwise (see the Tips page for a video). Some patterns use this instead of pick up and knit sts, which can also be confusing.

From what you’ve typed, though, it sounds like you are going to pick up the gusset stitches, just like you would if you were knitting a sock. There is a video on this site for picking up stitches, just scroll down till you see it. You might also check out Silver’s Sock Tutorial for great info and pictures on how to pick up a sock gusset.
