Knitting Shawl Dragon Tail Help

I am knitting a shawl with the dragon tail pattern. It is a 12 row repeat pattern. The 12th row is supposed to start with an even number of stitches and end with an odd number.
In that row, you decrease 5, purl to the end and increase 1. So taking 4 away from an even number results in an even number, which is where the problem is. If anyone has any input, it would be greatly appreciated.

This is the video tutorial that I am following: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zasWcACHEmM&list=LL&index=3&ab_channel=knitandcrochetwithJoanna

Here’s my work so far (12th row, this is the back)
The rows on the backside start with an even number of stitches while the front side rows start with an odd number of stitches.

Does the 12th row have to end the row with an odd number of sts? Why can’t you continue with the stitch number that you have?
Is it possible that you missed an increase or decrease on a previous row?

The 12th stitch is supposed to end with an odd number so the first row can start odd. With every stitch, you increase by 1, which important for the 9th row to be odd; which is yarn over, knit 2 together until you get to the last single stitch.
If I can’t figure it out, I may just have to decrease by 6 or 4 instead of 5.

Ah, I see. Yes, that’s a way to do it. If you’ve been counting sts all along then it’s just one of those missing or extra sts.
Let us know how it’s working out and please post a photo when you finish.

Did you notice this, under the video?
“IMPORTANT… In the last Row from the shawl we don t make increases we make degreases…Sorry for my mistake.”

So Row 12 only has the 5 decrases, no increase.

Oh, I thought she meant for the very last row when you’re binding off bc at the end of the shawl, she said to “increase” to bind off when she meant decrease, not for the 12th row. I’ll try that.
I honestly don’t remember what I did previously in the shawl.

I watched that part of the video, and she definitely ends with an increase. But she also ends Row 12 with 18 stitches…as near as I can tell.

This is why I don’t like video-only patterns…it’s too hard to check them.

Oh yeah, I went back and counted the stitches a dozen times, and saw the 18 stitches too, which confused me because the front side rows are supposed to be an odd number
