Knitting retreat

So if someone offered you the chance to go ona knitting retreat in the mountains or at the beach, would you do it? What would you like to see on a knitting retreat? What could you resonably afford? Would you fly or does it have to be local (one hour or less away)? Would you share a room? Would you need special food?

I’m thinking of organizing a retreat. We have mountains and ocean and hot spring retreat center here. I think it would be fun to get a bunch of knitters together for a weekend of knitting. No kids no work no laundry just knitting. Whaddaya think?

So if someone offered you the chance to go ona knitting retreat in the mountains or at the beach, would you do it?
If I had the money for such a treat, I would certainly do it!

What would you like to see on a knitting retreat?
 Hmm…classes on various techniques, sit & knit sessions (obvious ) And more … :??

What could you resonably afford?
Nothing. I’m perpetually broke.

Would you fly or does it have to be local (one hour or less away)?
Even if I could afford it, flying would be a definite no no. I’ve always wondered how a long/moderate distance train ride would be.

Would you share a room?
Not a chance! I haven’t shared a room since first semester, sophomore year and I have no desire to do that again. :wall:

Would you need special food?
Vegetarian foods

I still think it’s a wonderful idea!! Too bad I wouldn’t be able to attend though

So if someone offered you the chance to go ona knitting retreat in the mountains or at the beach, would you do it? YES, absolutely, depending on my vacation schedule…

What would you like to see on a knitting retreat?
Classes, Classes, Classes…friendship & fun

What could you resonably afford? It would depend on whether or knot supplies were included, but if I was given a list of necessary supplies for the different sessions, I would say 150 - 250 per day. On the higher end if room & board were included.

Would you fly or does it have to be local (one hour or less away)? It wouldnt feel like a retreat if it were too local, but near a big city where the flights are not too expensive might be okay.

Would you share a room? I would share with a friend, but not if there were assigned roomates. Rate options could reflect different preferences.

Would you need special food? Not me, Im easy!

So if someone offered you the chance to go ona knitting retreat in the mountains or at the beach, would you do it? yes, but I probably wouldn’t be able to do it, since I’m a stay-at-home-mom without a babysitter. Hubby works 6 days a week. I’m still filling this out for fun though.

What would you like to see on a knitting retreat? food, friends, a class dedicated to Elizabeth Zimmerman’s style, latest fashions, tips and tricks, special guests in the knitting world

What could you resonably afford? if it were local I could afford it better

Would you fly or does it have to be local (one hour or less away)? i would fly, but wouldn’t be able to afford it. I like road trips though and it would be fun to carpool with the right people.

Would you share a room? depends on who wants me the most

Would you need special food? no dairy for this girl

So if someone offered you the chance to go ona knitting retreat in the mountains or at the beach, would you do it? Absolutely!!

What would you like to see on a knitting retreat? New techniques, knitting, new friends, conversation
What could you resonably afford? No more than $100 unfortunately!

Would you fly or does it have to be local (one hour or less away)? Fairly local, even a two hour drive wouldn’t be bad.

Would you share a room? Yes

Would you need special food? I’m a Vegetarian. Other than that food doesn’t do much for me.

Love this idea!!!

So if someone offered you the chance to go ona knitting retreat in the mountains or at the beach, would you do it?
Yes, if the timing was right

What would you like to see on a knitting retreat?
Yarn Manufacturers. I would love to see and touch all that is available out there. My Husband sells medical supplies & a big portion of their meetings are paid for by the manufacturers so they can get time in front of the sales force.

What could you resonably afford?
Depends on the timing. $0-$400. Just a guess.

Would you fly or does it have to be local (one hour or less away)?
I would prefer local.

Would you share a room?
Maybe. Depending on the timing I could maybe bring hubby & he could use the time to write.

Would you need special food?
Ugg, yes. I don’t eat refined oils, flours or sugars. No dairy.

So if someone offered you the chance to go ona knitting retreat in the mountains or at the beach, would you do it? If it were in the summer time, TOTALLY, but not during the school year.

What would you like to see on a knitting retreat?
Uhm, scantily clad men teaching the classes …
Book and magazine review/discussion/browsing and purchasing opportunity
swap meet/trade/vendors…
End of retreat show and tell
Classes: how to include other mediums in our knitting/include knitting in other mediums, color 101 for knitters, EZ style pattern design, knitting basics, troubleshooting, socks, knitting software exploration, non-wearable knits, how to convert crochet patterns to knit, starting your own knitty business 101, OMG I have so many ideas for classes… probably b/c there’s so much I don’t know how to do and would find those skills useful

What could you resonably afford?
Depending on the number of days, activities, and the quality of the scantily clad men, no more than 400, including travel expenses. The cost of having to fly would seriously impact my decision to go.

Would you fly or does it have to be local (one hour or less away)?
I don’t mind driving; anything upwards of 2 hours I would want to have the opportunity to stay over, but even if it was a 4 or 5 hour drive, I’d do it, if the price was right, and I could possibly car pool with another Illinoian or 2 (woohoo road trip!)

Would you share a room?
Duh, I want Beldie! I don’t mind sharing at all, with anyone, as long as they don’t snore or mind me being a slob.

Would you need special food?
As long as there is meat and beer I’m good.

Whaddaya think?
Yes do it! yay!

:happydance: the bumpty dance is your chance to do the bump! :happydance:

I love this idea  - knitting is a wonderful thing to do while hanging out with people, & I love all ideas like knitting parties, dinners, get-togethers etc…

So if someone offered you the chance to go ona knitting retreat in the mountains or at the beach, would you do it?
Totally! I would prefer it to be during one of the school breaks, so my friend could go with me. Nice weather (summer) is always nice, but knitting is one of those things that’s great to do inside on cold, rainy/snowy days (a roaring fireplace, hot tea, great music/conversation…)

What would you like to see on a knitting retreat?
a relaxing, nature setting; knitting classes on basic & advanced techniques & designing/altering patterns; sit & knit sessions on particular projects (like live KALs); other fun stuff like yoga

What could you resonably afford?
a few hundred dollars max :frowning: . I think the idea of having sort of a yarn fair and getting the yarn makers to foot some of the bill is a great idea. It would probably require extra organizing & efforts to get the word out, but that would get more people there and that would be a good thing! :D

Would you fly or does it have to be local (one hour or less away)?
I am totally willing to fly, as long as the cost isn’t prohibitive. There are a lot of airlines offering low fares to major cities - it probably wouldn’t be too hard to organize shuttles from the airport. Perhaps it would be easier to organize one on each coast, or in different regions?

Would you share a room?
Yes, as long as there is enough space (and a relaxed roomate  )

Would you need special food?
I eat everything, but only free-range/organic meat, & no farm-raised fish is preferred (in a perfect world  ). Traditional American food is not my favorite, but I’m not picky as long as its good!

I really like this idea, is anyone willing to tackle organizing this? Also, we can’t be the first people to like this idea - are there any retreats that are already being organized somewhere?

I was thinking of organizing it. I live in Oregon where we have the choice of mountains or ocean. There are a gazillion places for a rerteat. Oregonians love to relax. Many of the retreats I have seen are in Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, those cold, middle of the country places. But i’m sure there are some in every state and around the globe. Here’s one of the more famous (and more expensive) http://www.schoolhousepress.com/CAMPS___RETREATS_/camps___retreats_.html

fmama, I just was reading about this reteat put together by ths woman near me: upstate New York.

Check out her retreats, they are very very nice. The two days length is good. I would’ve loved to do this spinning retreat (I want to learn to spin) they are at right now this weekend, on Cape Cod, on the beach. They rent the whole motel and share rooms if people want to. It’s reasonably priced too. Maybe next year. The combination of a beautiful place to relax at and meeting some new friends sounds fantastic.

(although the skimpy outfits on men teachers suggested by Hilde ain’t bad either)

I myself won’t fly anymore, I hate it!

So that leaves me out of Oregon. I’m thinking of organizing something for my neck of this woods also.

Oh, here’s the link, take a look: http://www.countrywool.com/

This is the MOST IMPORTANT aspect of the retreat. a “must have” if you will.

:rofling: :rofling: :rofling:

I second this!!! :inlove:

OY! I ssoooooo want to go there. I’m originally from Boston and my mum has a house on the Cape. (altough Cape Anne is a different Cape but still waaay cool). This is exactly what I want to do. A couple of days on a weekend, by the beach, just knitting. Sharing ideas, food, fun. I don’t know if I want to try to get yarn comapnies and Lily chin. I just want a relaxing thing. Although maybe I could get my LYS to sponser some yarn or somehting. I’m thinking maybe a beginner class and then for folks that have knit 60 gajillion scarfs could move on to socks or a sweater and then the next level could do cables, etc which each level sort of mentoring the last level. It would be like community knitting by the beach. Well, we go to the Cape every summer so maybe I could do a summer one there and a winter one here. Hmmm…

I LOVE that idea! I always thought the world should work just like the parking lot at a Grateful Dead show…

Well, Fmama, that’s interesting… you know the Cape! You might be interested in meetiing this woman. (oh geez it’s late & I can’t type well) Funny thing about this woman’s store, she has one class where she tells you to BRING A A RABBIT. I thought that was hilarious. A rabbit, a table cloth and I dunno. something else to comb the rabbit hair with to make yarn.

Wow . Gotta get me a rabbit.! (another funny thing is I inhereited a barn where the previous owner raised rabbits and the cages are STILL THERE. Yikes.) Is this a sign?

I always thought the world should work just like the parking lot at a Grateful Dead show…

I think I am in love with you

MUAH! :inlove:

I think a retreat idea is great. I live sort of in the woods so I can go out on my porch with a cup of coffee or to the lake (I’m not much into swimming-give me a shade tree to knit under while watching the kids) for a relaxing “retreat”. Getting together with other knitters sounds good since I know of no one else who knits. I would love to lgo to a class to learn to knit socks. Just looking at the books gives me a headache. However, I too am “perpetually broke” so it would have to be very local. Since I am alone in the big state of Idaho I guess that is unrealistic. Oh, someone was in Washington weren’t they. Anyone in eastern Washington?
