Recently I got my first (real) MP3 player. It’s a Sony 8gb and it plays video. I’ve put helpful knitting technique clips on it and all of my music, and someone suggested I add podcasts.
I’ve never listened to a podcast really, but I know there are knitting ones out there. The only two I know of are the KP one and Sticks and String by David Reidy in Australia.
Here’s where you come in!
I’m looking for suggestions of must listen to knitting podcasts that you recommend. If they include video, even better (I think one reason why I’d never listened to a podcast or looked into them is because I assumed it was always just listening - when I’d want more of a visual when someone is talking about a knitting technique or showing off a latest WIP), though a video component is not required.
Another requirement is that it’s updated regularly. I did a generic search and found a big list of knitting podcasts - like 81 - on the search term “knitting” at podcast.com but it’s hard to really sort through ones that have been updated recently/are regularly updated vs. old ones. Plus then I’d want recommendations on podcasts you just have to listen to from that pool anyway.
So… any suggestions? Recommendations? I’d love to hear them!
Also - are there other sites besides/along with podcast.com that you can recommend as the best site to find, subscribe to and browse podcasts of any kind? As you can see, I’m pretty new to the whole concept and may be on the lookout for podcasts on other subjects, too. And rather than google “specific podcast” and sort through lots of pages I’d like to be on one site and browse by topic or subject.
Hi, I’m new today. I saw your question and don’t know if anyone has mentioned YouTube’s videos on knitting… They have TONS, but they aren’t all collected in one place, so you would need to do a search on whatever topic you’re trying to find. Some of the videos are better than others, because most are homemade by knitters; if you don’t like the first one, try another. Also, don’t forget about the DIY videos (Do It Yourself) at DIY.com. I thought they were just for fixing up your home, etc., but they actually have some knitting videos. Who knew???
Anyway, good luck and keep us posted on your progress.
Thanks for the suggestions so far My prob with itunes is that I have to download the software for use with the “store” (and really don’t think I want to buy anything) just to browse and go through things it seems, and the issue with “tons” is that that’s what I’m finding… and don’t know how to weed through all of them to find good quality knitting podcasts that people recommend. (Not to mention ones that are actually updated regularly!)
I’m going to look into the Lime n Violet one and Stitch It! I’ve already added the KP to my queue
I like Cast On with Brenda Dayne. She is American, but lives “across the pond”. The pod cast includes music, interviews, yarn and book reviews and more. One of her features I really like is called Today’s Sweater. She talks about the latest sweater she has made, issues she had while knitting it, etc. You can visit her website here
I really, really like the Cast On one. Brenda Dayne has a really soothing, fun voice.
I actually am not liking the KP one. I’m sure I’ve committed a knitting blasphemy by saying that, but I can’t help it. Which is too bad because I love and use all of their products and was hoping I’d love the podcast just as much :\
I have iTunes and have never bought anything there. I use it just for downloading free stuff.
As far as good knitting podcasts go, there’s Cast-on with Brenda Dayne, Knit Science with Miriam Quinn, Let’s Knit 2together (videocast with Cat), Yarn Thing with Marly.
I’m sure there are others, but most of them are found on iTunes.
You might try the Podbean site for an alternative to iTunes.
BTW, I can’t use iTunes to download to my MP3 player. I have Rhapsody for that, but you can also use the Media Center that comes with Windows.
Ohhh i also love Knitty D and the City it’s old and they haven’t made any new ones but i still like re-listen to them. another good one is FiberCult. Both of these podcasts are if you like listen to more then one person. i always find it funnier when the knitters can play off one an other.
I’m also looking around for new podcasts, does anyone know any other pod cast that are similar?
I have a new one!! It’s really a LIVE online radio show - Fiber 'Tudes, on Blog Talk Radio… but the shows are available via iTunes as podcasts. You can also listen On Demand at Blog Talk Radio. We just started it… so we’re a little wet behind the ears.
BTW - I would LOVE it if more ppl would give it a listen either on podcast or LIVE! Live listeners can call into the show and contribute or “chat” with us in the chatroom during the show to contribute!
