Knitting newbie - help with chart

Hello there,

I’m quite a new knitter and attempting my first chart but struggling to understand it! It’s for a simple scarf (one of these ‘big scarf’ - just one ball of wool for whole scarf) and I understand the key but what I don’t understand is that it says to cast on 14 stitches but the chart only shows 6 stitches per row. I know this is a really basic question but I can’t see anywhere on the instructions that says how the chart fits into the whole pattern - I.e. what happens to the other 8 stitches!? Am I just being dumb?! I tried to upload a photo of the chart but failed, am hoping its something obvious I’ve overlooked - would really appreciate some advice!

Many thanks,

Sara

Can you link to the pattern please?

Usually a chart will give you a section of the pattern–one that you repeat over and over again.

I suspect that you have an edge stitch, then work the chart twice, then finish with an edge stitch.

Read the chart from right to left on rs rows and left to right on ws rows.

A link/name of the pattern will help. You may be able to show the chart now that you’ve posted.

Apologies - I couldn’t find the pattern anywhere online so had to take photos. This is the wool though:

See photo 1 attached, photo 2 to follow.

Hope they’re legible! Thanks for taking the time to reply. Sara

Part two of the pattern. Many thanks

Work the first stitch (the solid circle), then work the 4 stitches between 3 times, finishing with the final solid circle.

Ahh, so obvious now! Thank you so much Ingrid, this has been driving me mad for days!
