Knitting in the round w/ k2 p2 pattern

hi! i am fairly new to knitting and am sick of only knitting boring scarves! so, i thought i would make something new - a tubular scarf that’s kind of like a turtleneck sweater, but without the sweater part. so, just a knitted tube that i can pull over my head and not have to deal with a bunch of scarf hanging down. anyway, i couldn’t find a pattern, so i am just doing it as i go.

i have used circular needles many times to knit flat, but i have never knitted in the round. i understand the concept of “knitting every row in the round creates stockinette stitch,” but i am kind of confused about doing this ribbing. i am doing k2 p2 ribbing. i started the first row (after casting on) k2, and ended it p2. so, do i then do the same thing every row? start it k2 and end it p2 again, like i would if i were knitting flat? every time i think i have figured it out, i just get confused again five minutes later. plus, since have never knitted a ribbed pattern before (even flat), i can’t tell if i am doing it correctly this early on (i have completed about five rows so far, and it looks pretty messy to me).

any help would be great!

When you knit in the round for the ribbing, k2, p2 all the way around. Make sure you have a multiple of 4, then you don’t have to ever stop repeating k2, p2.

okay, that is what i have been doing - i made sure the number of stitches is divisible by four. it just looks really gross and messy right now - probably because this is the first ribbing i’ve ever done, and so i haven’t yet perfected my technique!

thanks for your help!

Most ribbing looks a little iffy for the first few rows. I don’t know why, but it usually evens itself out.

good - that’s encouraging! at least now i can pretend it’s not my technique. haha.
