Knitting in the round on 2 circulars

Hello,

I am new to knitting in the round on 2 circs. It seems as though when I am practicing (on 2 different size needles) I am only knitting onto the one size needle. Is that correct? Do I need 2 needles the same size? I want to use them on my sweater sleeve as I decrease down the sleeve and ribbing. I have a size 8 circ on my sleeve, but do not have another size 8 circ. I have the set of Denise circular needles. Can I put the stitches on another size circ and use the size 8’s as the needle to knit off on, or am I completely confused?

Thanks,

Jaye

When using the two circs method you should be using both needles. One needle is used to knit one half of the object, and the other is used to knit the other.

You should be using both ends of a needle on a side.

If you only have one needle of the size you need, perhaps the Magic Loop technique would be appropriate.

Saw this on another forum:

“You can also use this technique with a needle kit such as the Denise Interchangeable needles or the Boye NeedleMaster kit. You have 2 cables with one end being the correct size needle end and the opposite end being the next smaller size needle end. You always knit onto the correct size and knit off of the smaller needle size.”

I do have the Denise set and only 1 size 8 – perhaps I can do this instead of buying another size 8?? A little confused. What do you think?

Oh yes, you can use the 2 size 8 tips on one end of the cords and size 7s on the other end. Just make sure that the end in your right hand is the size 8.
