I’m doing a stuffed bunny pattern and am using the magic loop technique rather than 4 double-point needles. The problem I’m having is that when I knit this way, the knit pattern is on the inside and purl on the outside. I could just do the opposite of what the pattern says and purl where it says knit, but I’m a little concerned I’ll get messed up when I add/remove stitches and such. (I’m still a pretty new knitter.) Is there a better way or should I just get some double-points and this won’t happen? Thanks!
Welcome to KH!
This can happen on dpns or on circular needles too. You may be knitting with the needles farther from you and the knit piece closer. You want to flip your work through the center opening so that the needle tips are closer to you and the knit fabric is farther away. This video shows the technique.
It’s ok to knit this way but as you mention, it might be a problem when you increase or decrease sts.
Thanks! The problem is, I had to pick up stitches on the head that is already done to use for starting the body, so the body isn’t separate or flipable I’m thinking about just doing it separate instead, though, since it’s not for a very young child that I have to worry about pulling it’s head off.
It’s this one: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/winsome-wardell-the-white-wabbit-aka-bunny-rabbit
Okay, I replied before looking at the video. That was so helpful!! Maybe if I undo just the couple of rows I did and start again, close to me instead?
Oh, that’s such an adorable pattern. Yes, it may make it easier. Anywhere that you can conveniently flip the work through the center.
If you can see how to continue knitting the way you have been without too much trouble, by all means continue with it. It’ll all work out ok in the end as long as you can eventually turn the bunny right side out.
