I am knitting toddler mittens that call for DPNs. I am more comfortable with and have had more success knitting small diameter circular projects with 2 circular needles so am following the pattern with 2 circular needles. This pattern calls for the cuff of the mitten to have 1x1 ribbing. One side of the mitten on 1 of the circular needles looks like it should and the other side on the other circular needle looks like a jumbled mess. Is there some trick to ribbing on 2 circular needles that I’m missing? Thanks so much for the help!
Ribbing should knit the same whether you’re doing it flat, on dpns or one or 2 circs. Did you get an extra st on the side that doesn’t look right and that throws off your ribbing? Count the sts.
Okay, I counted and didn’t see an obvious problem there…the total number of stitches cast on was 26 and I put 13 on each needle. I just counted and still had 13 stitches on each needle. I was only about 1/2 inch into the pattern, maybe I should just unravel and start over.
26 divided by 2 is 13 so that would be right. I recommend putting 12 on one and 14 on the other so that you’ll always end with a purl. It’s easier to keep the join neat and ladder free if you start with a knit stitch on each needle.
