Knitting help

Please can someone help me. I’m doing the Rowan Atacama sleeved cardigan by Martin storey.

I’m on row 12 rib,

I can’t seem to make it work. I have already cast on 107 st and done 11 rows for the twisted rib.

Row 12,

Rib 3, work 2 tog, rib 12, work 2 tog,7 times, then rib 4, I should have 99 st left. But I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong?

So the row is
Rib 3, work 2 tog, (rib 12, work 2 tog)7 times, then rib 4
The stitch count before the decrease row adds up to 107.
Then there’s an initial decrease and then a repeat of the decrease 7 times for a total of 8sts decreased. (99+8=107)
The math works out so it may be a random error in missing a decrease or losing count? How many sts do you end with instead of 99sts?

If you have lots of removable markers (or safety pins, or you can use loops of thread) it might help to place a marker around the 2 sts which will be worked together for every decrease on the row before knitting it. This way if you miss count you can find out before actually knitting.

There should be 8 stitches less on Row 12. This teaching is probably interpreted as: Rib 3 Work 2 together, rib 12 repeat this pattern 7 times. Repeat 2 together again Rib 4 There are 107 stitches and 8 stitches will be decreased, which leaves 99 stitches (107 − 8 = 99). When your stitch count is not right: Double check whether the stitches for “rib 12” are the ones you are working or the entire row of “work 2 tog, rib 12” row. Words in the patterns can be confusing. I can help you understand stitch by stitch, if you post the exact instruction (Row 12) or a picture of that row.

Thank you everyone for helping me. I can now see where I was going wrong I was trying to do the rib 3, work 2 tog 7 times as well, instead of just repeating rib 12, 2 tog 7 times which I needed 133 st for. So thank you.

Good to hear it’s clicked for you.
The brackets given in patterns are really important.

Excellent! I’m glad you’re back on track to work this lovely cardigan.
