Knitting hat on circular needles

Hi all!

I am working on my 1st hat on circular needles. I am using a pretty large skein for it and seem to be eating it up and following the pattern I’m only halfway completed. It does have cables in it which I know uses a lot of yarn. My question is do knit hats on circular needles eat a lot of yarn up or is it just this pattern that has cables?

Thanks!

What is the name of your pattern and designer?
The same hat on circular needles and straights is going to use up essentially the same amount of yarn. The difference would be negligible.

It’s the cables that are causing that - though most people’s gauge differs flat vs round but usually not very significantly.

Here’s the pattern

Lovely!
Touch of Alpaca has 207 yards which should be enough for an adult hat even with the cable pattern.

Ok! I’ll continue and see how far I can get with what I have. Just feels like I’m using a lot more than I should be for a hat with cables.

Measure as soon as it’s possible to see that the hat fits and isn’t too big. That’s one thing that could be eating up more yarn.
