Knitting for the hurricane victims...washcloth

I hope someone else hasn’t already posted this…I found a group that is knitting some facecloths and sending soap as part of the relief effort.
Since sugar and cream is usually $1.00 at Hobby Lobby and soap can be found pretty inexpensively it is something almost anyone can do.

I know its not as grand a gesture as money…but it is something that most of us can afford. It seems like a handknitted, “made with love” kind of item would be much appreciated.

Oh and if you know of any fun dishcloth patterns, please let me know. I know there is someone on here who does a lot of them but I can’t come up with the name right now.

This has lots of washclothes and little soap bags, too.

Thanks, Ingrid!

 I wonder if it matters how experienced you are? I made one dishrag that I use as a doiley one cause of how long it took me and two cause I still don’t trust my knitting ablities… I need to knit another and try it out and see if it holds up… Thank you for posting this site

I am sure they would appreciate anything.

From what I can see, even the smallest of items is appreciated.

Yes. Anything is appreciated. Even a nice washcloth. It doesn’t matter how it looks. I know that we would appreciate anything at all. Thanks for thinking of us. :frowning:

where and how do these get sent? I have a bunch of dishcloths I do for practice, and lord knows I have tons of hotel soaps and shampoos i can put into little sewn bags also. Anyone have more info?

Kemps link above states they will be distributed directly to the shelters that are housing hurricane victims…I bet that if you join the yahoo group, it will tell you how to send them.

This sounds like a great idea. I’ll pass this link on to the girls at my knitting group.

Ingrid, some of the yarn you sent looks like dishcloth yarn. Would you mind if I used it for dishcloths? I think it would work better for a dish cloth than a chemo cap. has a really cool pattern for a bath poof for those of you looking for something cool:

Use it however you see fit! It’s your’s now.

Thanks, Ingrid

The ladies that started the group are collecting the face cloths and soap and sending it on at their own expense. All you have to do is mail the cloth/s and soap to them and they take care of the rest. If you go to the link there is a small intro but if you go ahead and join, they send you an email with all the details.

It really is quick and inexpensive to do. Plus, I know there is a LOT of cotton ease around out there  They said they’d also accept small stuff:
“I am hearing that they are also asking for small soft baby toys, crayons and coloring books. We will be more than happy to accept those items too!” So you could make a knitted bear or something of that nature if you would rather (talk to Glen or Silver…I know they have been discussing stuffed animal patterns lately).

I almost finished my first one last night in front of the TV. I cast on at the beginning of a Rome documentary and at the end I only had a couple of inches to go.

If you don’t want to think about a pattern, you could just do garter stitch or practice some new stitch you would like to learn. I found this one through Ingrid’s link: It’s an easy pattern that becomes mindless. This is in Sugar n Cream.

Lots of great info here, Silver. It’s so sweet that you’re taking the time to do this.

A little inspiration…in just a few hours…voila!

Those are very pretty, Silver!!! I would be thrilled to get those if I were in need.

Another cloth…Three and One by Linda Smith

What a great idea!

There are tons of patterns here:

Thanks for the link! That is where I got the pattern for “three and one”.
