So, I am understanding the pattern (and enjoying!) until I get to the last part of ‘Back and neck shaping’
I attach an image of the paragraph I am not understanding.
My question is:
Once I have repeated the short rows (in my case I am doing 9 mo/underlined in red) 4 x and then Row 5 and 6 once; the pattern asks me to 'repeat *3 more times.
Can someone break it down for me, what exactly x 3 that is.
I have tried repeating short rows 3+4 x 4 and short rows 5+6 x 1 - 3 times, but I seem to run out of stitches.
I hope I am explaining myself . Please ask if not.
Lots of comments on the pattern noting the problem keeping track of short rows and stitch number. Also the large number of ends to weave in on this small project. Still, it’s very cute.
It looks like you’ve done the pattern correctly. Work short rows 3&4 4times then rows 5&6 once. Repeat that sequence 3 more times. So for the ** repeats that you show in brackets:
(3&4) x4
(5&6) x1
(3&4) x4
(5&6) x1
(3&4) x4
(5&6) x1
Then repeat 3&4 once more to finish the section.
One knitter on Ravelry wrote out each of the rows with stitch numbers after each to keep track. Each repeat of rows 3&4 decreases 2sts. Each repeat of 5 decreases 2 and each repeat of 6 decreases 2sts. It’s a good idea to write the stitch numbers after each row and count your sts in order to keep you from working too many repeats too.
How many sts did you start with?
Thank you, yes a good idea to start writing down at each row. I shall do that from now on. I started with 115 stitches.
I’ve kind of lost track so think I will undo my rows back to the beginning of ‘back and neck shaping’, and count , count, count!
In my mind I followed same as you advise, and I thought I was running out of stitches. However, I shall start anew with the new plan!
Thank you again.
See how it goes. It looks like the back has two lines of decreases (6th photo down on the Ravelry page). It may also help to mark those two lines. If it’s still not working, come back and we can think some more on it.
