Knitting an anime plushie

I want something that works for an anime plushie and will use a pattern that involves… Well, not making a ball for the head or limbs that I don’t have to sew together, really. I’m more than fine doing the extra work, I just can’t seem to find a pattern that goes for it. I only have straight knitting needles right now and would really appreciate the help. I’ve been looking for something to make this possible for around a year. I’ve looked through doll patterns on free pattern websites, practically live at a few free pattern websites, and have found nothing that will work - or that I can do without the use of double pointed needles or small circular needles -

If possible, the best pattern idea I could go for is something like this

I really hate having my first post on a website be me asking for help, but hopefully if I get a suitable pattern I can snark over to the other board and post my WIP

Umm… do you have a picture of what you want the anime plushie to look like? I think that would give a better idea of the type of pattern you’re looking for. Like are you looking for a UFO catcher type look, SD form, or a more doll-ish appearance? The pattern you posted doesn’t give more indication of how the doll is suppose to look.

There’s a few plushies I want to make, though, a Snape, Harry Potter, Kuja from Final Fantasy IX and some plushies for my niece, maybe a self-one.

I found a couple you might be able to work with.


I’m not sure if these need sewing or not. The only option for you is to maybe learn magic loop or use two circulars if you don’t want to sew or use DPN.

Well if you really don’t want to use double points, circulars, or sew you could do the “‘knit 1 st, move yarn in front, slip 1 purl wise, move yarn in back’ repeat for whole length” thing. That would create a pocket or tube similar to knitting in the round.

You could always modify an existing pattern if you don’t want to work in the round. You can try this pattern from Knitty - Bubby Bear. It has the head, body, and legs knit together in one piece. There’s also a patterns on Ravelry if you have an account there.

ETA: Err… I thought she was asking for a pattern that didn’t require sewing much? At least that’s what I got from the limbs part.

I’ve seen the first option, Jan, and it never really worked for me but the second I haven’t seen and is more of what I was looking for. I’m gonna try it out now, so thanks much.

It’s not that I don’t want to use double pointed needles or circular needles, I just don’t own them and at the moment don’t have the money to go out and buy more needles.

RoseFairy, you somewhat misread my sentence there ^^; I was pointing out I couldn’t work that didn’t involve sewing up the limbs, which meant I need to sew up the limbs. I don’t mind the work and it just makes it easier on me. Also, I’m a guy ^^;

When your user name is ambiguous it makes it hard to guess. You could put your real first name in your signature or some clue like “I’m a guy” to help out. We do have several men here so you fit right in. :wink:

I have made a bunch of jean greenhowe’s patterns and they are knitted on single point needles and sewn up the back, The arms do have to be sewn onto the body.
