i just started knitting a fairly simple blanket… my only problem is that the pattern called for 84 stitches, and 84 stitches don’t fit on the needles all too well… is this normal?
What you need to do is invest in a long circular needle of the same needle size you need for the pattern. You don’t have to knit in the round, but rather knit back and forth as normal. Even if you did somehow manage to fit all your stitches on the straights, you’d find that the weight of the afghan crammed onto one needle would be a pain. The cable of the circ helps spread out the weight.
