Knitting a square

This is such a cute, and seemingly easy square to knit - came off the free Interweave newsletter, which I get daily as an email…

but it seems strange to me: cast on 4 stitches, then move them to four needles…meaning: one stitch on each needle?! So then, do I begin knitting with a 5th needle?

There is a picture of it, but I can’t figure out how to copy it out of that email and put it here.

Anyone else get the Interweave emails?

Trying that picture again, as a URL.

Yes, that presumes a 5 needle set, though you can do it with 4 dpns, just put 2 sts on one needle. But it’s very difficult to work with only 1 st per needle in the beginning, so put the sts on 2 needles and work with a 3rd one until you get more rounds and stitches, then add other needles and rearrange your sts.

BTW, could you edit your post to remove most of the pattern?
Even though it’s free and only for a square, it belongs to IK/Knitting Daily and is a copyright infringement to post all of it somewhere else. Thanks.

That photo is a png extension. So a link to the website is the only way to do it.
