Knitting a popcorn stitch

I would like to learn how to KNIT the popcorn stitch. The directions I have are not detailed enough as I am a beginner. All I can find in the other books are how to crochet the stitch.

All my directions say is to knit into front and back of stitch twice, then slip 2nd, 3rd, and 4th sts over 1st stitch. The piece I am knitting is only 7 stitches wide and I think it is possible to achieve the popcorn look. I am just knitting a simple narrow scarf and decided to add a new stitch. Please help me!!

that sounds like a bobble to me. what i would do is watch the video on this page for Kf&b and repeat it without taking the work off the left needle until the second set of them is done (hope that make sense.) Then you will take the four stitches you have on the right needle and take the second, third, and fourth stitch from the tip and pass it one at a time over the stitch closest to the tip.

hope that helps.

editied to add the link

If it is actually the same thing (they call it a trinity stitch aka popcorn stitch or blackberry stitch) they just showed this stitch on a repeat of Knitty Gritty. In the “All about Aran” show it is the first of the filler stitches at diynetwork.com. I tried it all afternoon, it was hard (maybe 'cause I keep knitting too tightly) but cute.

*eta - got so excited about my first post that I forgot my real intention of posting! They have a video clip of the stitch which is slightly helpful.

thanks so much!! I have done it, the yarn doesn’t seem to lend itself to the stitich well, but I think I have it. cherise
