Knitting a hat for a toddler

Hi there, I’m knitting a hat for a toddler and I have began the crown already. Row 1 has me a little confused, I have unravelled the row twice because I feel like I’m doing it wrong.

Is it K1,P1 8 times, K1 1 time, s2kp2, k1,p1 3 times, k1 1 time

Or is it K1,P1 8 times, K1 1 time, s2kp2, K1,P1 3 times, k1 until the end?

Thanks!

Toddler Crown:
Begin crown when body is 6.25″ high.

Row 2: p1, * (k1, p1) 3 times, p2, (k1, p1) 8 times * (73 stitches)
Row 3: * (k1, p1) 2 times, k3tog, p1, (k1, p1) 4 times, s2kp2, p1, (k1, p1) 2 times *, k1 (61 stitches)
Row 4: p1, * k1, p1 * (61 stitches)
Row 5: * k1, p1, k1, s2kp2, (k1, p1) 2 times *, k1 (49 stitches)
Row 6: p1, * k1, p1, k1, p3, k1, p1 * (49 stitches)
Row 7: * k1, p1, s2kp2, p1, k1, p1 *, k1 (37 stitches)
Row 8: p1, * k1, p1 * (37 stitches)
Row 9: * k1, s2kp2, k1, p1 *, k1 (25 stitches)
Row 10: p1, * k1, p3 * (25 stitches)
Row 11: * s2kp2, p1 *, k1 (13 stitches)

You are starting the decrease4 for the crown, so you will*( knit 1 purl 1for the nexr16 stitches), then Knit 1, slip 2 kp2 this is the decrease. It is worked like this:k1 slip 2stitches from left needle to right needle without knitting them, then take the slipped stitches and pass them Up and over the K1 and off the needle. then k1 purl for the next 6 stitches*, end the row with a k1. You will repeat what is in between the **. The next rows will be similar but with less stitches since you are decreasing on the row before.Just follow the pattern as it is laid out. There is a saying that applies here:Just trust the pattern.

I agree. The section within the asterisks will repeat 3 times total with just one s2kp2 per repeat.
Just one note on the s2kp2, Slip the 2sts first, then k1 and pass slipped sts over…
