Knitting a cowl with straight needles help

If my cowl pattern calls for 130 stitches and has a pattern of (p2,k1) for 2 rows, knit 2 rows and repeat.
Do I add an extra stitch at both ends if I’m using straight needles?
Is there an information place that would be easy to read and see.

Thanks,
Julie

If you are going to connect the two edges of the knit fabric, yes, you can add an extra stitch at each edge, a selvedge stitch. Then those stitches ecome part of the seam.

You can also add the extras and slip the first stitch on every row, which will give you a neat and easily sewn edge (it’ll show a little, and you do have to remember the pattern.)
