Knitted cast on, end of row

I’m knitting the chick from Zoe Mellor’s book, Knitted Toys. Her charts and patterns don’t include any instructions or suggestions for how best to do the increases (or decreases) to make the different shapes for the toys. As per the suggestions from other posts in the forum, I’ve been using the knitted cast-on so far to work the increases.

This worked great for casting on additional stitches at the beginning of the rows, but now I’m to cast on stitches at the end of the row as well.

If I work to the end of the row, then I have no more stitches with which to work the cast-on. Should I create the stitch before the last stitch and should I continue to use the knitted cast on, or better to use some other M1? If this is happening on the wrong side (perl side), would using the knitted cast-on before completely finishing the row make it look weird?

End of the row is the same as beginning of the row. Just turn the needle and cast on, it won’t make a bit of difference.

Thanks for the quick reply. I can’t just turn the work and keep going b/c I need to actually work a perl stitch on that last stitch. Otherwise, I have only 24 stitches before then I start the next row instead of 25. Make sense?

You can do it anyway. Move the needle to your left hand, cast on the st, then put the needle back in the right hand and purl the last stitch. I don’t see why you have to work a stitch after you cast on a stitch. And if it’s only 1 st, you can just use the backward loop cast on. Or just use a M1 increase.
