Knit Vintage pattern intructions

I am trying to knit the Wallis Pleated Cardigan by Madeline Weston and Rita Taylor. I am confused from the shape side seam section, which says:
Row 1
Row 2
Row 3
No problem up to this point. But then it says:
Cont like this, taking 4 more sts into st st on every row and inc. in the first/last one before the rib on every row until there are 34 sts in rib for the yoke.
This is what I need help with
Thank you

Welcome to KH!

There seems to be agreement that this is a rather confusing pattern. Several of the knitters on Ravelry have commented and left notes.

The above notes were especially helpful.

The idea is that the ribbing gradually changes to stockinette stitch, 4sts at a time. This gives you a curve at the rib to stockinette transition somewhat like the effect of short rows but without the turns. You’ll be working across the entire row each time.
The 2nd photo here may help too.

Thank you so much for this information, much appreciated. Yes, I noticed that some knitters say this is confusing instructions but I did not want to give up on this beautiful cardigan. I understand now that you have explained it so clearly.

It is a lovely, vintage look that works well today. Yes, general complaints about missing stitch numbers and confusing instructions but it’ll be worth it in the end. We’d love to see a photo when you finish!
