Several of my needle sizes won’t lock when I tighten. Is there a fix?
Are you tightening with the little key?
Knit Picks is usually very responsive to reports of defects. Send them an email explaining the problem and details of your purchase.
Yes, the key doesn’t tighten. tt just spins around and around. Also, several sizes are getting loose by the wood and metal part of the needle body.
Definitly something to take to Knit Picks.

Things like this are why I started buying Knitter’s Pride instead. My last problem with my Sunstruck tips was the final straw. I got a set of Knitter’s Pride Ginger tips to replace the ones that kept having problems. My nickel plated Knit Picks tips are in such poor condition from the finish layer flaking that I never use them. I might still be able to get them covered under warranty but it hardly seems worth the bother since I like my pointer Knitter’s Pride Nova Platina with a longer taper so much better. In the future you might consider going with Knitter’s Pride (all pieces are compatible with both brands) should you want another set or just get replacement pieces. Knit Picks honored the warranty when I asked but how many times did I want to have to do it? I prefer needles that rarely give me problems.
Does Knit Picks offer swivel cables? I just ordered some Lantern Moon swivel cables to go with my interchangeable sets. I only buy Knitter’s Pride cables, ever, and Lantern Moon is now part of Knitter’s Pride.
I’ve never heard of swivel Lantern Moon so will check those out. I got one ChiaoGoo stainless steel US 2 with long cable to try magic loop for socks. I had read the cables on the ChiaGoo red cables are very good and I really like them. I’m beginning to like metal needles better than bamboo. I also didn’t know you could get double points with metal tips. My interchangeable set has 4-11, so when I need new needles I’m going to try the Knitters Pride. I emailed Knit Picks last night, so will see what they have to say.
Knit Picks should honor the warranty; I expect that they will. Are you in the US? If so check out Handsome Fibers for future purchases. Free shipping on orders of $35 or more and they can honor the warranty on the needles. I like buying one set of tips to see if I like that particular style. Having all cables work with all the different tips is handy and saves money. I use dpn for fixing mistakes, trying something on a small number of stitches, and fingers or thumbs. Otherwise I’m all about magic loop for small circumference knitting in the round.
I contacted Knit Picks and they are going to send me a needle replacement! Thanks for your knitting tips!
