Hello all. I’m new to knitting and no matter what I type into the google search engine this sites comes up. So I decided to join.
I found a video on this site that shows K1B, however there is a split second where the screen flashes and I belive I’ve missed something.
Here is my question, when you K1B, what happens to the unknitted loop? No matter how I knit the K1B that unknitted loop is loose and begins to unravel. So I think how I’m holding the working yarn or maybe how I carry it over is not correct. I’ve searched all over the internet without a clear picture of what happens to that unknitted loop.
You drop the st on the left ndl once you’ve wrapped and completed the st in the row below. (Make sure you’re working a full K on that lower st.) The upper st, as it drops, can’t ‘unravel,’ per se, as it’s a completed st from when you worked the previous row. It WILL look slightly loose for a moment, as it’s undone, until you proceed but the slack will pretty much disappear (altho there’ll be a slight length remaining which is needed for that st patt).
Hope that makes sense.
ETA: I googled and found K1B on several sites. A couple pics here

OH thank you. This does help. I had no confirmation that any of the things I tried based on the various websites was working and when I looked at my work it did not look like the picture of what I was making. I might need to do more than 2 rows to see the pattern. Your description of what happens to the unknitted stitch helps. Ok I’m off to the my chair to knit my project.
OH SHOOT!!! I’m still not doing it right. When I pull one of my end tails the unknitted pieces are unraveling. UGHGHG!
When I pull one of my end tails
Tails? (Multiple?) Why are you pulling on tails? (Basically you should only have one tail…that being where you CO.) The only yarn you should be working with for the K1B st is the yarn being used to work the rows.
What is the pattern? (Please post link of instruction info.)

Yea, I’ve been fooling around with this one stitch for an hour tonight. I think I’m picking up the stitch below, and pretty sure when I take the working yarn to loop around, it’s correct. And I’m pretty sure when I take the right needle back through to create the new loop, I’m inserting the needle into the correct hole, however, that unknitted stitch is unraveling.
The instructions are from a book I purchased. Goes as follows:
CO 20 sts (color blck)
Rows 1-4 Black - Garter stitch
Rows 5-18 White - Rib stitch, in the instructions they provide their Rib stitch as follows: K1, *K1B, K1; rep from * to last st, k1.
OH SHOOT, after the K1B I was missing the K1 right after it. Could that be my problem. As you review I’m going to try it again.
OH thanks so much for trying to help me through this.
OMG!!! No unraveling this time. CRAP! I was not reading the instructions properly. I’m so excited. It only took me hours of trying and trying, back and forth from the computer research then testing it again, more computer research more testing. I just could not give up on this design because I figure I have tougher patterns coming along as I get better at this, so I better get all the easy stuff down pat.
Oh thank you Cam. I’ve been trying to find local classes and it’s funny how there are no classes offered and the ones that are offered are held during business hours. I have to work during those hours. So I rely on books and the computer.
Glad you finally fig’d it out. When I saw mention of diff colors I wondered if some kind of wrapping of the yarns had come into play (if you were alternating colors in a row) or you were trying to intro new colors while working the K1B at the same time. Hope the rest of the project goes better for you.

I know this is an old thread but I thought I’d post this link to TECHknitting where she describes (and has great drawings) of what this stitch looks like so others searching for this information can check it out…
Thanks for posting the link to those instructions - they are very clear and easy to understand!!
