Knit in the round with a chart direction

Hello, It has been awhile since I have been on this forum so please excuse me if I make any mistakes.

I purchased the Lasse. L. Matberg Viking Knits hardcover book. I am attempting to knit the Lasse Sweater but I am confused how to knit following the chart when I am knitting in the round.

What a great looking, comfy sweater! Looks like a beautiful book.

The charts like this one are written for both the in the round part of the lower body and the flat knitting for the upper body. Since you are on the in the round portion follow each row of the chart from right to left always working RS row stitches.
The first and 3rd rounds are all knit. The 2nd and 4th rounds alternate knit and purl sts along the round. This will change when you separate for the upper body and begin knitting flat. Then you will alternate RS and WS rows.

For me the key is to remember that when I’m working itr I’m always looking at the RS of the work and the chart shows RS rows. That means working all chart rows from right to left and of course bottom up. I think by the time you’ve knit a few rounds you’ll know what to do without the chart. Love the pattern.

Hello,

So I have the sleeves done and i have the body done up to the garter stitch pattern. I think I am supposed to do the garter stitch to the top of the shoulder then attach the sleeves. Does that sound about right to you?

There’s the garter stitch variation (your initial post) given in the pattern at the top of the shoulder . You can see the shoulder detail in the 5th photo down on the main Ravelry page. So yes, working the garter stitch as defined in the pattern looks correct.
