Ok, I just had to frog my rona lace shawl as I got to a point where the numbers were not matching up and with how lace is I couldn’t pull out to another row, but now I’m trying to start it again and I can’t manage to do the 6 stitches in the round, they get twisted so fast no matter how I try and do them and the gaps are HUGE where the needles are. Any tips on doing this small of a group of stitches and then yo,k into the first row?
practice!
or try this.
with some waste yarn (not too heavy, if you don’t have any, use some pearl cotton (skeins are sold with embroidery floss in craft or real needle work stores)
cast on 6 (any style)
work 3 or so inches of icord (Less if you run out of waste yarn)
then switch to real yarn (leave a long (8 to 10 inches tail )
the weight of the icord will help to hold the DPN/or keep the magic loop ‘straight’
later, (after a few round/ or when finishing) cut off cast on
thread tail on to tapestry needle.
slowly unravel (frog) i cord tail
when you come to end, thread live stitches onto tapestry needle and join into eyelet. (double thread eyelet… twice through all the stitches…
perfect center!
If you’re using DPNs, cast all 6 sts onto one needle then take the next empty needle and from behind(where you started your cast on) and slip 2 sts to this needle(#1), then take #2 needle, slip 2 more to it, then take #3 needle and follow the directions in this thread: http://www.knittinghelp.com/forum/showthread.php?p=1092243#post1092243
Hope this helps! Also, there’s a KAL for the Egeblad and other circular beauties: http://www.knittinghelp.com/forum/showthread.php?t=79452 where you’re welcome to join us! Some of us are making tablecloths and doilies, others are making shawls~ The Rona Lace Shawl is gorgeous!!!
For starting just a few sts on dpns, I use only 2 needles for the stitches, use a 3rd to knit with. After you’ve increased for a few rounds, then you can add the 4th needle. This works if you’re using 2 circs or magic looping 1 circ, though you’d need a dpn to act as the 3rd needle with 1 long circ.
