Kings Quest games

Anyone else a fan of the original Kings Quest series of adventure games? We cut our gaming teeth on these games and my daughters and I all remember them fondly. Well, I just found a few that have been remade!! Woooo! :yay:

I downloaded and installed this one yesterday. It works fine on my Vista computer. I told it to play as Win XP and it’s fine. It has a small window although I think you can tell it go full screen. The graphics are probably better small though.

I just found this one today! I’ve downloaded KQII so I hope it works. It should as it says it works with Vista. The game has been updated and is slightly different, but who cares. The basic game is there. It’s hard to find good adventure games so I’m good. This one works fine on Vista! The graphics are blocky like the originals were, but it starts in full screen mode. You have to go through the introduction which explains the quest, then you play.

Thanks a bunch! King’s Quest was my very first RPG (although I didn’t know it at the time). I basically went from Frogger in DOS to King’s Quest. Blocky graphics make me [I]swoon[/I]. cloud9

:teehee: If you’re running it on Vista set it to “run as administrator” and you won’t run into problems.

Right click the icon and select 'run as admin" and then after the run through select settings and do the same. I had an error, but all is well now after doing that. Something weird with Vista I guess.

Love, love, loved the KQ games!! It was the first game we played when the kids were younger–rememer “look” or “get ring”?

When Jake was little, he used to like to sit on my lap and ‘play’ KQ8–he called it “Man Jumpin”.

I’m almost afraid to reload them. I may never be heard from again. :teehee:

:lol: I do remember the first ones that you had to actually type in what you wanted! I also remember that in those early days we had the game on like 6 floppies and you had to keep changing disk then they changed screens. :zombie:

[color=#300090]Before KQ there was Rogue. I found it some six months ago and have it at home. The kids like to fiddle around with it.

Since I was a Commodore-64 user during the Kings Quest era, I missed out. But we had the Ultima series. I knew programming so well on the Commodore-64 that I was able to write a program to read the maps right off the game disks and then print a 254 page map. It reveled all the secret locations you had to learn from a chain of characters in the game.

Seems like I had more time in college than I do now.[/color]

I have been playing KQII. Right now I have 29 pts and I’m kind of stuck. :doh:

I wish the game industry would consider doing that more often and that Hollywood would do it less often.

With computers and game consoles being upgraded more frequently than TVs and video players, it makes sense to release old favorites for the newer formats and not just the current releases.

If I were a programmer, I’d port a whole game series over to each new game console.

These type of games have always been my favorite. We loved Kings Quest, Space Quest, Laura Bow… unfortunately when the games turned more violent they were pushed out of the market in favor if those type of games. It’s a shame.

The creators of these remakesis working on adventure games again through Himalaya Studios to make new ones. They have one out so far. It looks cute and I just downloaded the trial.

I played Kings Quest VII when it first came out (my first experience with the series) and I really enjoyed it! I didn’t think about going back and trying any of the old ones until I found the “King’s Quest Collection” – all seven games and it runs on Windows XP! I bought it on impulse when our local CompUSA closed (the reviews of it seem to be mixed) and I haven’t tried to play it yet. :pout:

I’ve played all of them and thought about buying that set, too. I have Vista so there may be some finagling, but I’ve managed before by telling the game to run as a WinXP or whatever.

BTW… Since you played KQ7 first you will be very surprised by how primitive the early games are. The first few you actually had to type in what you wanted him to say. The graphics were crazy, too. It was fun to watch the progression. :thumbsup:

I finished King’s Quest II with 176 out 185 points. Not too bad!
