King Cole patter 5223

Hi. Wondered if someone could help me. I’ve started knitting the gilet in size 1 to 2 years, which has a cast on of 67 stitches. I’ve completed the rib no issues and the pattern then instructs to knit as for the back sweater. However, the first row of the 8 row pattern repeat only has 62 stitches, which is 5 short, although the instructions for the sweater also has a cast on of 67 for the 1 to 2 year old size and the second row is back to the 67 stitch count. I’m very confused- not for the first time lol. The photo is the completed rib. Many thanks. Lesley.

1st Row: K1, (P1, K1) 1[2 : 2 : 3 : 3] times, P2,

K3, P2, K2, P2, K3, P2, K1, (P1, K1) 7[7 : 10 :

10 : 12] times, P2, K2, P2, K3, P2, (K1, P1) 1[2 :

2 : 3 : 3] times, K1.

2nd Row: K5[7 : 7 : 9 : 9], P3, K2, P2, K2,

P3, K19[19 : 25 : 25 : 29], P3, K2, P2, K2, P3,

K5[7 : 7 : 9 : 9].

It looks like an error in row 1 of the instructions. Row 2 adds up to 67sts for the 4th size. What you could do is work the middle panel of (P1,K1) for 5 additional sts. That would leave the pretty cables on either side intact.

1st Row: K1, (P1, K1) 3 times, P2,
K3, P2, K2, P2, K3, P2, K1, (P1, K1) over 25sts, P2, K2, P2, K3, P2, (K1, P1) 3 times, K1.
The panel would then begin with a P1 and end with a P1 at stitch 25 of the panel. That will be ok over the succeeding rows of seed stitch.

King Cole does have a page for errata or amends but I couldn’t get it to search.

Hi Salmonmac. Thanks for your reply. That’s what I thought I might do, but just wanted to check I wasn’t missing something. Thanks again x

Your instincts are correct. It’s such a cute little vest with a lovely cable pattern. Let us know how it goes.
(I let the company know about the problem just in case they want to suggest something else.)

Hi Salmonmac. I’ve started the first pattern row, but I’ve found if I work the centre panel over 22 stitches, which fits between the cables ( I have stitch markers) and the other 3 stitches belong at the beginning of the cable (K3). This then matches with the instructions for the first set of cables, which begins and ends with a K3. I’ve attached my written pattern instructions. Do you think they are correct? I contacted Knitting Network where I bought the pattern on line, but they can’t help, but have given me a contact at King Cole. Many thanks. Lesley.

One 8 row pattern repeat completed and I think it looks correct :crossed_fingers:

That looks fantastic. Your solution has worked well! The rest of the pattern should be smooth going from here but come back with any questions. We’d love to see the finished project too.

Thank you

Your knitting looks beautiful but i think there is a small error in your written instruction.
The cables should be flanked by p2 which I circled

If you work
P2, k1, (p1,k1) × 10, p2
in the centre panel it still adds to 25 sts but will be symetrical. The p2 shows off the cable as a frame.

I hope this helps.

I didn’t check the other rows.

Edited to add this copy of your original row with 5 sts missing. I added the missing sts in bold. It was a fflnking p2 and a k3 from the cable section.

1st Row: K1, (P1, K1) 1[2 : 2 : 3 : 3] times, P2,
