Well, June is winding down, and I haven’t finished the challenge either! But it looks like we might have some late entries from THIS thread in the patterns forum. Yay!
Okay, here’s my completed project!! I made my African-American niece Jeynaba a pillow with her name on it, and the number 5 since she turned 5 in May.
She loves it! :happydance:
I didn’t tell her anything about Juneteenth, but I told her mom, my sister, who I thought might want to celebrate it.
I used a bunch of crochet granny squares, with a knit center panel with color work.
The pillow is soooooooo cute!
And SO is your niece! She is just SPARKLY!!!
duh…she is adorable!!! I meant to say that too!
WOW! what a smile!!! It looks great Amy!
Could this little girl be any cuter!!??
Oh, and the pillow looks very nice, too, Amy.
Amy, when my daughter was 5, her Godmother gave her a shirt that said I’m five. I think she wore that shirt just about every day! One year later, she cried uncontrollably. “I don’t want to be six. I like 5. My shirt says I’m 5.” Be prepared------have something special ready for the big 6. It was tramatic at our house!!
The pillow and your niece are both adorable!
oh that’s funny!!!
Thanks! She was beaming when I gave it to her!
MaryB, thanks for the warning! If I have to make her something special that says “6” on it, I will!
Actually it’s sort of a family tradition at this point. When I turned 5 my father’s girlfriend made me a huge banner that said “Amy 5” on it. It was a reference to the fact that I wrote my name as “AMY4” when I was four. It was the best present of my young life! But it didnt’ occur to me to cry when I turned 6! LOL I think I just kept the banner up.
I’ve come to the conclusion that if I ever get around to taking pictures of any of my knitted stuff, I absolutely cannot have a cute kid in the picture because who would notice the knitting? WHAT A PRECIOUS NIECE!! Oh my gosh. If she doesn’t already have an agent, she needs one because she has a very special sparkle.
