I’ve offered to start up a CAL for all of us, so we can brush up on our crochet skills, and have fun together at the same time.
:cheering: :woohoo: :cheering:
Our first CAL will be DISHCLOTHS!
Quick and easy.
So, choose your pattern, hook and yarn, get started!
You can use either cotton or acrylic yarn for your dishcloths.
“What?! Acrylic she says??!!!” :??
Yes! If you want good scrub-action with your dishcloth, use some of that old scratchy acrylic yarn.
I only know basic crochet stitches, so this will definitely be good for me. I’ll probably start off with the “Absolute Beginner” patterns. :teehee:
To join our CAL, just post a message here, and let us know what you will be making. If you can, post photos of your crochet creations in progress and completed. Feel free to give us ideas on how to make pretty stitches!
If you don’t know how to post photos in our forum, just click the link in my signature below. One of our moderators has made a nice tutorial for us.
This one just popped in my head, it may be the simplest (non-straight) pattern.
Ch 2, (Sc, ch 2, Sc) in second ch from hook. Turn ch 1.
Row 1: SC in each SC, Sc ch2 sc in corner chain space, SC in each SC to end. Turn, ch 1.
Repeat row 1 until you reach the size you want.
That was in my head and I don’t have any such pattern bookmarked nor in my binder. Though I must confess that I haven’t tried it, I just thought it would look like a knit mitered square.
It is just the corner of a granny square, really. Any size yarn or hook to your preference.
No gauge or tension to match.
For an added dimension, Sc TBL for ridges on both sides.
I’m going to use some white Bernat Cottontots, because I really like that yarn - and white is easy to clean with bleach and hot water in the machine. I’ve found these beginner crochet patterns to choose from:
Since I tend to think outside of the box. I will be making mine up as I go along. I did an afghan squares for a charity group making afghans for the needy and homeless. I just tried different knitting stitches as the afghan squares were 9 inches and knitted. I think I will try some different stitches as I go along.:guyknitting:
I started off with several rows of single crochet, then tried some other stitches, ended up with several rows of single crochet, then added a shell border. It’s not perfect, but it’s still pretty. I’ll be using it as a facecloth.

Well, I was crocheting along and I had no idea! :teehee: For Mother’s Day I had crocheted a set of dishcloths for my mom and grandma (3 dishcloths each: 1 green, 1 yellow, and 1 orange) and rolled each set together and made a nifty chain string tie to keep them rolled up…They loved them and my grandma wanted me to make 7 sets for her to give to her friends! I’ve been working on those for a while (just got the orange dishcloths finished the other day…lol)…I still have all 7 yellow dishcloths to make, and 3 green. Very simple cloths, just single crochet but the colors look so summery and go great together…They look really cute all rolled up together! So cute in fact my mom still hasn’t un-rolled hers…lol…I’ll post pics once I have a finished set!
