K2tog tbl help

Hi I am doing have k2tog tbl and I keep losing my stitches as it’s too tight any tips?

Can you use a smaller needle to work the K2togtbl (maybe a dpn) then transfer the resulting stitch to the right needle? It’s a bit cumbersome but perhaps better than trying to locate a lost stitch or two.

Hello

Have you got lots of them to do for a repeat pattern, or is it just the odd one? It might make a difference on how to tackle it.

You can slip the 2 sts one by one to the right needle, wrap your working yarn then use the left needle to lift the slipped stitches, one by one, over the yarn wrap. Like binding off. It will produce the same result.

Or you can try to work the k2tog tbl all the way over on the narrowest part of the tip, use just the tip of the right needle, pull through a very small stitch. After you have the new stitch through and have allowed the 2 old sts to drop off you would need to take a moment to enlarge the new stitch, pull through some extra slack so you can make a full size stitch that fits the widest part of the needle properly.

You could also slip the 2 sts onto a thin cable needle and work them off that. There should be more room to get your right needle in. I personally don’t like working off a cable needle but that’s me, I would do it if it was just a few of these or one row, but not if it was throughout the pattern.

I hope one of these methods helps.

I have a row of 20 on a baby cardigan. Thanks I will try those tips

Let us know how it’s going?
What is the name of your pattern and designer?

It’s BHKC 40 and it’s not going well. Keep losing a stitch. I’m using 4km needles going to try and work stitches on a smaller one and move them over. Thanks for the advice

If you are using interchangable circular needles you can change the tip of the left needle to a smaller size for this row. If it’s all one row (even if this row is repeated some time later) this would be a more comfortable way of working. The working needle, right needle, needs to be the correct size but the left can be a lot smaller. After completing the row change the tip back to the correct size.

Or, if you have a smaller size DPN to slip the whole row onto this would work too.

If you’re struggling a lot it might be worth working this out on a swatch to try the different methods before using your real yarn too many times.

An alternative may be to work an ssk with the purlwise slip instead of the k2tog tbl. The left lean will be the same and the result may be neater. Another possibility is the skp (slip one, k1, psso). At least you’ll be dealing with stitches one at a time in the skp.

Thanks do you mean knit one tho then knit second stitch tho then pass first stitch over? Thanks

That should read tbl. I’m not using circular needles though

For the slip 1, k1, psso? The video shows it pretty nicely. You slip the first stitch knitwise (don’t knit it), then knit the next stitch (that’s the only stitch that’s knit). Finally pick up the slipped stitch from the right needle and pass it over the knit stitch and off the needle tip.

Thanks I finally got the pattern right with perseverance.

I’m now making the hat but I am wondering if it is wrong it’s the body of the hat after the picot line. It says k1 k2tog tbl repeat to end but it makes the stitches out for the repeat lines. Does anyone know of the pattern?

Can you quote the entire row? Is this after the body of the hat has been knit and you’ve made rows of decreases?
Usually instructions like this occur at the end of the decreases when you’re just about ready to close up the hat.

Or is this the pattern stitch which should have increases to compensate for the
k2tog tbl decreases?

This pattern should be the same as the cardigan. Can you use that as a check on the row in question?

The pattern reads

Work 4 Rows stocking stitch

k1 k2togtbl rep from *to end

But that reduces the stitches and doesn’t work

ItsIt’s at the stArt of the hat of the end

HAT

Proceed as follows:-

Ist Row: * KI, k2togtbl, rep

from * to end.

OK, on the 2nd row after the * k1, k2togtbl * row 1, is there an increase row? That might compensate for the loss of sts in row 1.
The pattern in the hat looks like the pattern in the sweater body so I would expect the instructions to be the same even if the stitch number differs.
Can you quote rows 1 and 2 of the body pattern (not the picot edging) for the sweater please?

Thanks everyone. I went with my judgement and the pattern was wrong. I’ve now completed the hat

I would like to say thanks for the prompt replies and advice. It is appreciated
