K2, P2 rib in the round

Hi everyone:

When knitting K2, P2 ribbing on straight needles, I learned a method of wrapping the purl stitch clockwise instead of counterclockwise to avoid getting those pesky loose knit stitches that seem to always appear! The knit stitches then had to be knit through the back of the stitch.

When knitting in the round with this purling method, I can’t tell if I need to knit through the back of the knit stitches or just knit through the front as normal. :?? :?? :??

Can somebody help me out here?! The ribbing turns out beautifully when I do it on straights, and I want to be able to do it on dpns for sock ribbing. I just want to make sure I have the method right for knitting the knit stitches in the round when doing the purls clockwise.

I hope you can make sense of this! Thanks!

You can do it the same, except that you’d be wrapping the yarn the opposite way on those purl stitches on one round, then on the following round you’d be purling that twisted stitch through the back loop.

I still don’t understand! Sorry for being so thick!

If I purl TBL of the twisted purl stitch, which way do I wrap the stitch? Clockwise or counterclockwise? I think I’m just confusing myself more! :wall: :?? :wall: :??

This is how I’ve done it. On the first round, purl the first stitch following the knit stitch through the front loop, but wrapping the yarn the clockwise. Then on the next round, purl the twisted stitch through the back loop, wrapping the yarn the counter clockwise.

It worked for me, but I also found that I have a lot less trouble with screwy ribbing when working in the round compared to working flat.

Thank you knitqueen! I found this while looking for sock patterns. Is this what you’re talking about?

For a slightly firmer ribbing that always looks neat, use a twisted K2, P2 ribbing:
Rnd. 1: K2, P2 around.
Rnd. 2: K2 through the back loop ( tbl ) P2 around.
Repeat these 2 rounds for 8" or desired length.

I’ll give both a try and see what works best for me. Thanks for all your help. It takes me a little time to let it sink in before I “get it” sometimes! :figureditout:

That’s not exactly what I was talking about, but sounds like a good idea too!

Oh boy, I’M SO CONFUSED!!! :passedout: Thanks for trying knitqueen! I appreciate it. :eyebrow:
