K1.yfwd.K1

I have just recently started reading on how to upgrade my knitting skills. In the past i have amounted to scarfs only. I’ve read this nice little introductory book which was very understandable.

Ok, so lets try a pot holder right! The first instruction is to cast on one st. then (K1.yfwd.K1). all in the same st. What? Im not getting it here. Could someone Please explain this to me in detail. I read all about differant abr.‘s but i cant’ believe that the first one i come across is one that this book doesn’t cover. Is it the same as to yarn over? :x:

Im so down hearted.

Yes, yfwd is the same as a YO. So you knit 1 into the st, leave it on the needle, yo, then k1 again. That creates a double increase or 3sts out of 1.
