Hi, I am new to knitting and the pattern says k the k sts and p the p sts. Do I knit the stitches that look like knit stitches, or do I knit the stitches that were knit stitches in the previous row (that look like a purl stitch in this row? Help
The Knit stitches will look like this on the needle: V You knit these
The purl stitches will look like this on the needle: __ You purl these
Do this no matter what row you’re on.
Knit them as they appear. It wants you to knit stockinette. Where all the V’s are on one side and all the purl bumps are on the other. So if you knit one row, when you turn (if you’re knitting flat) you’re going to purl back. If it’s the side facing you with V’s - knit. If it’s the side facing you with bumps - purl.
got it - thanks for the help
Okay, here’s some messy guides:
If you want stockinette stitch, you knit one row and purl one row, and it should look like this:
Front Side:
VVVVVVVVVVV
VVVVVVVVVVV
VVVVVVVVVVV
Back Side:
If you want 1 by 1 rib, then you knit one, and purl on rows like this:
V-V-V-V-V-V-V-
V-V-V-V-V-V-V-
V-V-V-V-V-V-V-
V-V-V-V-V-V-V-
IF you want 2 by 2 rib, then it should look like this:
VV–VV–VV–VV
VV–VV–VV–VV
VV–VV–VV–VV
VV–VV–VV–VV
If you want seed stitch, it should look like this;
V-V-V-V-V-V-V-V-
-V-V-V-V-V-V-V-V
V-V-V-V-V-V-V-V-
-V-V-V-V-V-V-V-V
- is purl
V is knit
That’s about all I can think of right now, hope they help!
