First off, just wanted to sing the praises of Malabrigo and Tobias–who happens to be the person I talked to at Malabrigo.
I started a Malabrigo Junkies group on Ravelry and thought it would be fun to have a Malabrigo Cast On Week. To get people to participate I decided to give away a few skeins of Mmmm as prizes (Ravelry members can still join in on the fun!)
I wanted to award more than I could afford so a random thought popped into my head–why don’t I ask Malabrigo for donations. They were generous enough to supply us with some preview hanks of their soon-to-be-new Silky Merino!
I wouldn’t mind going for a swim in this!
It’ll be going towards prizes during our Malabrigo Week (which is happening right now!) as much as I hate to part with such yumminess.
Mmmm. So soft and smooth and beautiful–like Malabrigo could be anything less. I just wish it was all mine!
Hopefully this dose of yarn p0rn will help you get through your day.
it’s actually a really good buy. a hank of worsted is 215 yards. the average price for it is probably around ten bucks, unless you get it on sale. that’s where google comes in handy. it’s the one of the softest yarns i’ve ever felt, and it’s cheap. most yarns that are fairly comparable in quality are more expensive and don’t give you as much yardage.
that’s probably why once i got my first hank i kept going until i had bought eight over a period of, oh i don’t know, say two weeks? on a limited budget, that’s a lot.
Mmmm, yeah, one of my favorite aspects of Malabrigo is the price for the good amount of yardage you get.
The regular Malabrigo worsted is 100% merino wool. This new stuff is 50% merino and 50% silk. It’s not completely released yet–they sent me the yarn as a preview/tester to get the word out so I’m not sure how much this costs. I’m assuming it will cost more since it has silk… although, there are only 150 yards/skein.
