Joining two legs using magic loop

Hi  I’m knitting a romper for my baby and quite stumped about what the pattern requires me to do in this section of joining the two legs for the body. Help would be so appreciated.

Here is the pattern:

Place the live sts from both legs
on a long circular needle so that you can knit using the magic loop technique (= 116 (120) 128 (132) 136
Cast on 6 sts between the legs on the back (using your preferred cast on method, for
instance you can use the backwards loop method), knit across the left leg, cast on 6 sts
between the legs on the front, work half the round of the right leg. The round now starts
here (= the right side) (= 128 (132) 140 (144) 148 (152) 160 sts

How do I arrange the legs such that I can cast on 6 and knit the left leg? In my muddled brain it seems to me that I would only be able to work half the left leg before needing to cast on the next ‘front’ stitches between the legs.

Do I put the leg with the cut yarn, or the leg with the working yarn still attached onto my needles first?

When it says, ‘work half the round of the right leg’ does that mean, half the round which is the right leg or half the right leg?

Does right leg/side mean the right as I am looking at it?

I’m sure this is actually straightforward and especially for exepreinced knitters, but my brain hasn’t fathomed how it works out with the magic loop technique.

Thankyou!
Danielle

I think I may have sussed it! I think the pattern is only asking me to knit half of each leg

Cutest avatar photo ever.
What is the name of the pattern?
The right leg or right side is as you would wear the garment. You want to be able to start with the leg that has the working yarn attached. Cast on 6sts then work across this entire leg (the left leg), cast on 6sts and then work half way around the second leg (right leg). Place a marker for the beginning of round.
This technique will work for the cast on of the first 6sts.

Here’s a video that shows you a good way to cast on in the middle of your knitting. The set up is slightly different but the idea is the same and will work for casting on the second set of 6sts.

The cast ons are basically the same but the first shows casting on at the beginning of a row and the second in the middle.

@salmonmac Thankyou so much for your reply! I really appreciate it. You’ve put the pattern into plain english for me and broken it down, and those videos are helpful. So basically, there is half the right leg which won’t be knitted in this section, but will be knitted in the next round so it will be fine. I was caught up on the idea that everything had to be knitted.

Appreciate your skill and time

Too adorable!

Enjoy finishing these overalls and please do post a photo when you finish. We’d all love to see them.

Actually the second half of the right leg is knitted at the end of the round, right after the second set of cast on stitches.

I have socks on my needles but the arrangement would be the same.

Green marker, start of round. Yellow marker, left side of left “leg.” Black market,
front half of right “leg”.

Your Working yarn should be at same location as my green marker on the right leg.
Knit in pattern around the back of the right leg, cast on 6, knit the back and front of the left leg, co 6, knit front of right and place marker.

@OffJumpsJack Ok, yes! That is it. I wasn’t understanding the pattern as saying that. Thankyou so much for the photo and explanation. I’ve just re-done my row, and now it is actually right and I feel relieved.
I should draw a diagram in future because that visual really helped.
