Working on ‘A Simple Baby Pullover’ using a pattern from Erica Kempf Broughton of Nomad Yarns.
The instructions say
“ The instructions say
On your very last row, knit to the last 4 stitches.
The sweater will now be joined to be worked in the round. You be be doing this by using the last 4 stitches of row 6 and the first 4 stitches on the other end of the needles. K2tog, one stitch from each needle (this is very similar to a 3 needle bind off. Do this for each of these 4 stitches.”
I am using circular needles as the pattern says but for this part does it mean I should use a third needles to join? And am I supposed to move this un-knit stitches to the other needle?
Help!
Welcome to KH!
I’ve made this one and it works out so nicely. You will need a third needle to work the sts together. This video shows the alignment and then the way to k2tog across the sts to join. (It is like 3 needle bind off but without the bind off.)
Once you knit the sts together they will be on the right hand needle and you can proceed with the round.

Thank you so much. It just wasn’t clear to me that I needed a third needle since it wasn’t mentioned in the materials needed.

You found where to ask and now you’ll know for another project. It’s a continuing learning experience.
More questions
It says after joining to work the two rows a number of times until you get to x stitches for the back, I’ve already reached the number of times, 6, but my count is still less . Do I just keep going until I reach the stitch count?
Then for the Separate sleeve stitches it says to slip stitches to ‘waste yarn’. Does that mean a stitche holder?
How much lower is your stitch count for the back and your total stitch count? You can certainly work a couple more rounds to get to the correct stitch count or you could sneak in one or two extra increases. You have some leeway but you don’t want to extend this part of the sweater too much longer than the pattern is calling for.
You can use a stitch holder or some scrap yarn to hold the sleeve sts. Sometimes the holder is too bulky and stiff whereas the scrap or waste yarn is flexible.
I’m 6 short which means i goofed somewhere so I’ll just do one more increase row and skip one increase stitche. Thanks, I wasn’t sure that ‘waste meant to use a scrap of yarn to hold the stitches.
OK, a stitch or two extra is fine. I probably added an extra stitch each side at the underarms when I separated for the body and sleeve.
Good luck with it and come back if there are any other questions. We’d love to see a photo when you finish.
