Jogless stripes in the round

Hi guys,

I’ve been trying to figure this out for a couple hours now and am stumped. I’m knitting a hat in the round with 2 colors, and after the ribbing I want to have 2 rows of 1 color and 1 row with another color. ( 2 black, 1 white, 2 black, etc.) I have tried many different techniques in order to get jogless stripes, I tried picking up the stitch below and knitting that and the current stitch together, and I’ve tried slipping the stitch as well. Neither of these are working, or maybe I’m not doing them as often as I should. Should I be doing them after each round or only on certain ones, or am I just doing the wrong technique? Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Welcome to the forum!
I pick up the stitch in the row below but I haven’t used single row stripes. These links show the methods you’ve already tried as well as a method for doing all single row stripes (barber poles). See if it helps. Hopefully you’ll hear from others with more experience with stripes.
