Jo Sharp Yarn in the US? Dr. Who Scarf!

I want to knit one of these for my DH. He wants a Season 16 scarf. I was going to use Brown Sheep Naturspun Sport instead of the Jo Sharp because of price and availability. (My LYS carries Brown Sheep and they can order colors they don’t have on the shelf). When I’m ready to do it, I think I’m going to buy a color at a time so I don’t end up with different dye lots of the same color. Maybe when I get my tax refund next year, I can buy the yarn I need all in one shot.

Maybe we should have a Dr. Who Scarf KAL?

You ladies ROCK! I admit I am a new Who fan…I have only watched the new series with the 9th and 10th Doctor. My bud in NYC has been a fan since she was a wee one. As a gift I am making her the Season 18 scarf (pattern from DoctorWhoScarf.com)

I have 1/3 done and I am doing it in Classic Elite Inca Alpaca. Here it is:

All the ladies in my little knitting group LOVE it and they don’t have a clue about the Doctor Who connection.

My friend and I have decided to MEGA geek out and go to the Gallifrey 2008 Con in LA, so I am going to make a Who Scarf for me. Since I like the crazy color ones, I am going to make a Season 15 scarf (DoctorWhoScarf.com) to wear at the con.

Being a cheapo, I am just going to do it in acrylic. Last time I was in Michael’s I found a new yarn from Lion Brand called Vanna’s Choice which is I guess endorsed by Vanna White:ick:. Anyway, I like the colors and texture and I thought it would be a good substitute.

We are all going to have to share our Who creations!

I got paid yesterday, and think I’ll go ahead and order at the first few colours used on the scarf.:cheering:

My BF and I were watching Dr. Who (Robots of Death) last week and I kept pausing the DVD and eyeing that scarf, hehe! In that episode, he actually loses his scarf by putting it on one of the robots as a decoy. It gets attacked and he loses the scarf and his hat! At the end, he and Leela leave without 'em. :frowning:

Umm, there will be NO dressing up robots in MY scarf!

I’ll post when I get my lovely yarn!

PammieJR, that scarf is fantastic! I can hardly wait to start mine!

annomalley, I wish I could find the Naturspun yarn, I can only find Brown Sheep bulky locally :frowning:

:noway: :noway: :noway:
how often do they have it?? oh my. a doctor who convention. it will take days for my eyes to return to normal size - not to mention the fact that i think my jaw has permanently locked into place (wide open, that is). wOw. now i really had better get that job!!! :nails:

btw, that scarf looks amaaaaazing. :inlove:

Somehow I missed the part about the Dr. Who festival in PammieJR’s post…I’m a poor reader when I’m knitting and scanning posts…hehe!

I would love to go! Went to a Star Wars convention this year in LA, had a fantastic time! I better get to working on that scarf…and look for a proper frock coat!

BTW, I’m having problems finding the Jo Sharp DK wool in the colour Khaki. I ordered all the others without a problem from Ozeyarn and The Yarn Studio.

The Gallifrey Convention is in LA every February and runs for a long weekend [http://www.gallifreyone.com/gallifrey.php]. It is the weekend of President’s Day (which some of us have off) :woot:

I am glad you all like my season 18 scarf so far…I can’t wait to see everyone’s progress!

there’s no way i’ll get to 2008 (i’m hoping i’ll be employed long enough and in time to go to SAFF in october), but now i can start planning for 2009!!! :yay:

for those of you who got completely hooked by the 9th and 10th doctors (i must admit, i am one - but only because i was too young to understand the originals although i do remember watching it. very cool for a young girl of 7ish!), and for the rest of you as well, i have found a pattern for rose’s wrist warmers from doomsday. i can’t wait to knit these up! :woot: can you imagine knitting a pair to go with your scarf? a little something new to go with a whole lot of something old. plus i found the yarn the designer used for $2.99 a skein at little knits. :cheering:

and yes. we definitely need a dr. who KAL. :knitting::guyknitting::knitting::guyknitting:

OMG those wrist warmers are awesome! Yep…I must knit those up, they are beautiful…and I really love the Doomsday episode…one of my favorites! Thanks for the excellent link to buy the yarn…I’ve spent 120.00 today for scarf yarn (yikes!) and it may be a while before I get cash to buy warmer yarn…hehe, that better turn out to be one FINE scarf!

…I have a huge crush on David Tennant (spelling?). He’s so much fun…i’d love to be his Companion…(sigh!)

This all makes me want to buy the DVD sets and find more knitting projects based on the latest series of Dr. Who…I never even noticed those wrist warmers when I saw the episode on TV…

Martha

It shows how good that episode was…I didn’t notice the wrist warmers at all the first time I watched the episode (OK…it MIGHT have been because I was watching through tear filled eyes  ) But when I watched it a second time, I couldn’t keep my eyes off of them…Fab to have a pattern for them!! Thanks for sharing!!

once i saw that pattern i KNEW i had to share! i don’t know how many times i watched doomsday, but i never noticed the wrist warmers. i was too busy being sad and trying not to bawl. (that didn’t work, btw) i won’t be able to get the yarn for a while since there’s a $25 minimum, so if you guys order it, be sure to save me a couple of the purple!

I have the pattern for Rose’s slouch hat although I can’t remember what episode she wore it in or even where I got it.

this is only partly OT. i found the gag reel for (the new) season two and just had to post it. looks like k-9 found a new friend! :teehee:

oh, and if you’re on ravelry, be sure to join the “who knits?” group.

Oh, absolutely. I have to admit, I really didn’t get in to Doctor Who until the season finale of the “new” Who this year. How I managed to never see it, growing up in a sci-fi filled household and watching PBS like it was my job as a kid is beyond me. But anyway, yup, gotten lots of mindless knitting done while catching up and shamelessly ogling David Tennant…

Awesome link!

Hehehehehehe! Cybermen on the swingset…!:woot:

I had no idea there was so much Dr. Who on YouTube…

Awww…sweet lil’ K-9…he DOES have a friend!

BTW…here’s a nice link I found for a Who Knitalong!

Martha

now i guess i’ll HAVE to get an LJ! :roflhard:
i just realized that i’m even more excited about this than i am harry potter, and that is most definitely saying something. just don’t tell my mom. once she finds out, she’ll know i’m beyond all hope. :chair:
i just googled doctor who in the video section, then i got REAL smart :figureditout: and googled doctor who full episodes! now i’m off to finish full circle. i shall never sleep again!!! :roflhard: :inlove: :out:

i may be going to my lys today (tuesday). i’ll keep my eyes :oo: for it.

ravelry?

it’s like myspace for knitters and crocheters. it’s an online community where you can share patterns, pictures, yarns, and join groups. it’s great fun.
