Hi everyone, I like Jennifer steingass patterns but for the life of me, I can’t read charts, is there anyone that writes similar patterns with written instructions, thanks.
It’s really difficult to come across written patterns since charts are so compact and easy to see.
Charts for color work are a simpler way to learn to read charts and much more straightforward than lace. Would you consider learning just for the color work?
Those Jennifer Steingass patterns are gorgeous.
Thank you, yes indeed they’re beautiful
Maybe there is a way to become more comfortable with charts? It’s a bit daunting but they are so common and useful that it’s a shame to have to limit your pattern choices to avoid charts.
Do you think there is a way we might help your understanding of them?
I used to have trouble with charts indicating different stitches…so many funny symbols to learn! It has gotten better with practice, and there are tricks for not losing your place.
I find colorwork charts much easier to read, especially for knitting in the round, as the stitches are almost always just knit stitches and the only thing different is the color to use.
I’m sure someone here could help you learn to use them…those sweaters are gorgeous!
There are lots of beginner videos for color work charts, Very Pink, Roxanne Techniques Tuesday among them. A few basics and you could be on your way.
And you know you can come back here if you get stuck. Try a pattern out on a hat or dishcloth if you’d like.
Thank you so much
