I really need to learn magic loop! I would love to try it on my sweater sleeves
I need to learn it too. I think I’ve just discovered the reason to order some Addis… :shifty:
Magic loop is really easy. It just takes a little practice and then you can use it on any small diameter knitting! Amy has a video. It seems a little complicated at first, but stick with it…it’s not! On Amy’s video she is working with a very small diameter sample, it’s easier on the larger ones like a sweater sleeve till you get the hang of it. You could also use the 2 circ method and I’ve done that, too. I prefer magic loop though myself.
Oh…one other thing. If you order needles don’t forget you need long ones for ML.
Is 40 inches the standard for ML? Will lengths in the 30s work?
Most of the things I’ve read say 32 would work, but to be honest if I wasn’t working with interchangeables I’d probably get a 40 myself. That way it would work with lots projects. Having it longer on a small diameter knitting project would of course mean you’d have to slide the work further so on the needles as you move from each side, but it’s a small price to pay for the ease IMO.

I have Denises, and without finding outt myself, what is the longest cable in there? It looks like you’re using your Denises
Yes, I’m using Denises. The booklet that came with mine says you can create needle lengths from 17-58 inches. I just measured the one I’m doing the sleeves on and it’s about 37 inches. I don’t know which combination I am using. Also according to the booklet you can now get 40 and 52 inch cords from the Denise website to add to your kit.
Although I haven’t done it you can knit two socks using magic loop. Here is a website that shows you at least one way to do it.

I remember now how it works (I watched Amy’s video months ago).
I have Boyes and can interconnect the cables to get to 40 inches, but the connectors are a real PITA to work with.

Thanks! Yes, it’s Bernat Denim Style yarn. It’s very soft, easy to work with and doesn’t shrink when washed and dried. :roflhard:
Lisa, I live in Laguna Hills. Technically it’s about 1/2 mile from Mission Viejo, but the cities here all run together.

I love my sweater soooooo much I’m thinking of making another one…different yarn and color. I would also like to do ribbing rather than the curled edge. I won’t have any problems with the wrists or bottom, but how big an issue is changing out the neck? 
Hmm… maybe I’ll just get this pattern # 9729. Some of the others are nice, too! So many sweaters… so little time! No wait…I’m retired, I have all the time in the world! :roflhard:
And OMG! Look at the cardigans! They look great to learn the basics! I like simple anyway, not a frilly kind of girl. 
Those are nice patterns; I like a nice basic sweater, too. Always room for those. The one you linked to, though, isn’t a raglan, if that’s what your looking for. You might just do a search for a free raglan pattern to see how many stitches they cast on for the neck to allow for picking up stitches for the ribbing. Actually, I know I have some here, so I’ll keep an eye out.
