James C Brett double moss stitch cardigan pattern JB595

Hi all. I’m a seasoned knitter but I am using this pattern and I’m not sure if it is me but I can’t get the sleeve armhole length the same as the front and back. It seems as though the pattern is missing some rows. Has anyone had the same problem or is it just me ?

Welcome to KH. All I can think of is row gauge differing. How much difference is there? Someone else will surely be more help.

Hello

If you think there is an error you could contact them to check

Otherwise, do you think you’re able to work out from the pattern and your experience what it should be or would it help to type a few rows from front and back armholes to get some more eyes on it?

Welcome to the forum!
Is there a schematic for the pattern or a length or row count given for the armhole bind off to the shoulder bind off? The back is usually helpful in this because you won’t have to consider any rows needed for the neck shaping as in the front.
Can you measure the length that you currently have for the back armhole and the front armhole?

I was thinking of contacting them , but the only contact I could find was for suppliers I will have another look. Thanks for your help

Just seen your link and realise it isn’t only for suppliers thank you

It’s strange because you have to knit the two sides first and when you knit the back you have to deduct lines from the length.
I will adjust it if I need to but it’s not something I have encountered before. That’s why I think it may be a typo on the pattern
Thank you for you help. I appreciate it. X

Thanks so much for your help. Everyone is so kind and helpful here

Sometimes it’s more helpful to check that the front armhole is a reasonable length then knit the back armhole to match.
You may be able to calculate the width of the sleeve at the top using the stitch gauge and number of final sts. This is especially easy for a straight bind off at the top of sleeve and somewhat more difficult for a shaped sleeve cap.
Then you can see if the front armhole length plus the back armhole length will fit the sleeve top.

Thank you for your help, think I will check the armholes with another cardi I have completed recently and adjust it accordingly. The sleeve armhole is definitely shorter than others I have made x

Let us know how it goes. It’s such a pretty cardigan.

Is there a possibility that the shoulder seam sits towards the back of the shoulder rather than at the top of the shoulder? I’m really a novice knitter but I’m just wondering if it might be a construction something like a european shoulder where the armhole hole is kind of pitched back? This is just crossing my mind as i have a sweater which would sit a little better if the back armhole had been a touch shorter and the front a few rows longer, which i know isn’t the standard shaping of a knitted set in sleeve/yoke/shoulder but it made me think of the one and only european style i have made.
Well, im just thinking out loud, its probably not this.

I hope you get a quick reply from them. On the rare occassion i have contacted a pattern publisher uve had a good response.
Let us know how you get on,

That was my thought as well. The European shoulder often has the front knit straight with no shoulder shaping, and then the back armscye is shorter, as the front wraps over onto the back.

I’veever seen this before but the shape of the sides and sleeve is same as this.
Thank you for the photo. I would never had solved it. X

Glad this sounds like the answer!
The european shoulder is lovely.
It’s a shame your pattern doesn’t have it described or listed in the details, or a picture of the side or back.
As you haven’t come across this before i thought I’d post this link of a bunch of them, all europen shoulder, just for you to look at to get a feel for the different looks. I think they all have a side or back photo if you open the pattern pic.

Hmm, sorry this link is supposed to be filtered to european shoulder but seems not to save the filter when i link it. If you use the filters, yoke, then european shoulder, you can see them.

Really? We’ve seen photos of your work. Give yourself more credit for your accomplishments please. To me novice is a rank beginner and you have major mad skills going.

You flatter me! Making 6 sleeves, or 20 necks for a single sweater kind of shows how little I know or understand about clothing construction. I just plug away and hope one of them turns out weable! Ha!
I bumble through with all the amazing help from here and youtube tutorials.

You’re welcome.
Maybe you’ll share a pic when your finished.

You’re creative and constantly problem-solving and learning with every “mistake”. Part of the fun of knitting is that there is always stuff to learn, and you really exemplify that. You are definitely NOT a novice knitter, and are no longer permitted to call yourself that in this forum!
